Cathodic Protection of Steel Frame Structures

It was only in the late 1860's with the invention of the Bessemer steelmaking process that designers realized that they could now build multi-storey buildings using steel frames. Over 160 years later we are now seeing the results of the lack of knowledge and detailing in the form of Regent Street Disease.

The presentation entitled 'The Cathodic Protection of Steel Frame Buildings' will explore what Regent Street Disease actually is, look at the Principles of Conservation with regards listed/heritage structures, give an overview of Corrosion and Cathodic Protection, promote the importance of, and detail what an investigation, condition survey and feasibility study should consist of and what the advantages are of carrying them out prior to deciding on the repair methodology, touch on the various other options available to repair the structure and discuss some recent projects undertaken by CRL.
